Course Descriptions
North Theatre offers three classes in Theatre: Theatre Arts, Advanced Acting and Production.
Theatre Arts an introductory class, is a place to explore and learn the basic ideas of theatre: improvisation, pantomime, theatre history, technical (make-up, costume and set design) and, of course, acting. This class is for everyone – from the merely curious to the aspiring thespian. See the Theatre Arts page for information on assignments and due dates. This class may be repeated for full credit.
Advanced Acting is for those students who are interested in learning more about the processes of acting and directing. Very much a project oriented class, Advanced Acting allows students opportunities to perform in the community including the Living Statues Project and the MCCSC elementary school childrens play tour. See Advanced Acting page for information on production dates and assignments. This class requires permission from the instructor to register and may be repeated for full credit.
Advanced Theatre Production is performance-based where the study of acting, theatre design, production and history are applied to public performance. The intent of this class is to give students the opportunity to experience and practice all aspects of theatre production, from exploration to conception to production. This school year, 2013-14 students will participate in the Living Statues Project, create an original play from a Seuss book that is performed at the MCPL in March as well as put up a mini-play festival in May. The class will also participate in an in-school theatre competition, as well as have an opportunity to create and present workshops for middle-school and elementary school students.
This class requires permission from the instructor to register and may be repeated for full credit.
Ms. Sobrer also teaches English electives, Film Literature and Speech and Communication for the BHSN English Department. See linked pages for course and assignment information.
